Three men have been accused of selling a woman a car for AED 31,500 using forged RTA papers which certified the health of the car.
The 27-year-old Sri Lankan woman agreed to buy the car after test-driving it for a short period and seeing the RTA papers which certified the car was in good condition.
A short time later, when the woman was driving to Dubai, the car started experiencing difficulties and eventually stopped moving completely.
According to a report from Gulf News, the woman arranged to tow the car and later lodged a complaint with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). The RTA then discovered the genuine history of the car, it had failed inspections five times previously.
Two men in connection with the dupe have been arrested, however a Pakistani man who sold the woman the car has thus far managed to evade the police.
In turn, one of the men has been accused of accepting an AED 30 bribe to forge the papers and abusing his employment position (where the cars get examined).
Both men have been accused of conning the woman. The next hearing is on August 9 and a summons has been issued for the man who is not yet in custody.
