Amidst reports of an Uber takeover, Dubai based ride-hailing service Careem has purchased an Indian bus shuttle service app called Commut.
Careem Networks FZ have acquired Commut’s technology and talent for an undisclosed amount, according to Bloomberg, both which will be fully incorporated into Careem’s growing transportation network.
Commut is a Hyderabad-based minibus shuttle service for daily office commuters and Careem is reportedly planning to roll out the service in 100 cities.
Currently the ride-hailing platforms are rivals in the region; Careem, the huge Dubai success story which has grown to over 100 cities in the MENA and South Asian region and Uber the international ride-sharing app of choice, with a stronghold in 785 cities worldwide.
Now, could Uber be serious about taking over Careem? According to international reports, it is. $2 billion to $2.5 billion serious.
No formal decisions have been made between Uber Technologies Inc and Careem Networks FZ, neither company has made a comment and it’s not definite whether a deal will go ahead.
Bloomberg reported that negotiations are ongoing. A complete takeover or a combined ownership could be on the cards.
Back in July, when the alleged preliminary talks took place, a rep for Careem stated the company does not respond to rumours.
