The Government Has Warned Residents About Fake Social Accounts Asking For Charity

Avatar

The Ministry of Interior has issued a warning to UAE residents about people reaching out and asking for money via social media.

According to Khaleej Times, some people are creating fake accounts on Facebook and Twitter, and ask for contributions to aid victims of natural disasters.

The fraudsters are posting fake photos and names and ask the public to send contributions.

In the UAE, charities are regulated and registered with the Emirates Red Crescent – any organisation not registered with the ERC can result in punitive actions to the organiser and any contributors.
