In a move that’s resonating across the UAE, HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has introduced a more empowering title for women on official documents, and that’s “Generation Shaper.” And it all started with a powerful Mother’s Day message.
Taking to X, Sheikh Hamdan shared a heartfelt message recognising the role of mothers in shaping society:
Mothers are the first school for their children, the place where children learn belonging, responsibility and the values that shape strong nations.
Today, to mark Mother’s Day, we have directed the Community Development Authority to adopt the title “Generation Shaper” instead of…— Hamdan bin Mohammed (@HamdanMohammed) March 21, 2026
The directive to the Community Development Authority signals a shift in how caregiving roles are recognised. Rather than using “housewife,” the term “Generation Shaper” reflects the influence, responsibility, and long-term impact of raising future generations.
This isn’t just a wording update; it’s a cultural statement. The new title acknowledges that mothers play a central role in building values, communities, and ultimately, the nation itself. It reframes the narrative from something limiting to something deeply empowering and future-focused.

The change has been officially directed within Dubai through the relevant authority, though it’s not yet confirmed if it has been implemented across all systems or nationwide. People in the comments are also wondering if this change will be reflected in people’s Emirates IDs, but they sure are hoping so!
