The RTA just dropped the big news on Sunday

Massive changes are coming… This AED 18 billion ($4.9 billion) project is a game-changer. It’ll bring in 14 stations and extend the Metro network by 30km, with over half of it running underground.

According to Mattar Al Tayer, the director general of the RTA, the Blue Line will be revolutionary, serving vital areas expected to hit a population of about one million by 2040, as per the Dubai Urban Plan. Plus, it’s all about connectivity and integration, linking up seamlessly with the Red and Green Lines.

Talk about city planning done right!

The Blue Line will directly link Dubai International Airport to nine key areas along its route: Mirdif, Al Warqa, International City 1, and 2. Dubai Silicon Oasis, Academic City, Ras Al Khor Industrial Area, Dubai Creek Harbour, and Dubai Festival City. Anticipated travel times between these destinations range from 10 to 25 minutes.

But wait, don’t get TOO excited YET. It’s set to wrap up in 2029, just in time for the Dubai Metro’s 20th anniversary bash!

Here’s something fascinating: unlike the current Metro Lines, the Dubai Metro Blue Line will be mostly underground, with just over half of it running beneath the surface. In 2023, Dubai’s Red and Green Metro lines saw a whopping 260 million riders. The start of construction on the Blue Line is bound to thrill public transport users in Dubai!
