Dubai Police Nabbed An Ivory Trader With More Than 1,800 Pieces In His Possession
A man transiting through Dubai Airport has been caught with 1,849 pieces of ivory in his possession, illegally transporting it from Africa.
The man was coming through Dubai on his way to an Asian country from Africa – a notorious route for the illegal ivory trade.
The man had painted the ivory black in attempts to conceal it, and labelled as exported shoes.
The UAE is a signatory to the Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species
Dubai Police confirmed that trading ivory in the UAE is illegal based on the CITES treaty, and is committed to upholding the rules.
