Dubai Police pulled off what sounds like a Netflix special, Operation Pink Diamond. A gang tried to steal and smuggle out a one-of-a-kind $25 million pink diamond. But the plan was foiled, the suspects were caught, and the gem is safe.

The suspects posed as rich buyers, renting flashy cars and holding meetings at luxury hotels to trick the diamond’s owner, a jeweller, into believing they had a serious buyer. They even brought in a real diamond expert to check the gem and make their story convincing. Eventually, they lured the jeweller to a villa, got him to bring the stone, and then snatched it.
The jeweller reported the theft right away, and Dubai Police’s Criminal Investigation teams tracked down the suspects using advanced tech. The gang tried to smuggle the diamond out of the country in a mini fridge, but the police moved fast, raided their hideouts, and recovered the gem before it left Dubai.
The pink diamond, weighing 21.25 carats, is certified as Fancy Intense with exceptional clarity, symmetry, and polish. Basically, one of the rarest gems you’ll ever see, with only a 0.01% chance of finding another like it.

The jeweller, who’s been trading in Dubai since 2005, called Dubai Police’s response “astonishing.” He said multiple patrols showed up within minutes of his call and that by the very next morning, the suspects had been caught and the rarest pink diamond was safe. He also urged others in the trade to follow safety guidelines to keep Dubai a secure hub for the diamond business.
