Mohammad Tariqul Islam, 13, took home the number one spot at the 21st Dubai International Holy Quran Award (DIHQA) which took place in Al Mamzar on Thursday.
The award was given at an annual competition, sponsored by the Dubai government for the memorization of the Quran.
For top prize the Bangladeshi boy received AED 250,000 at the ceremony which took place in the Dubai Cultural and Scientific Association auditorium among a total of 103 participants.Â
Second prize went to American contestant Huzaifah Siddiqui who took home AED 200,000 for his efforts.
Shaikh Saleh Bin Abdul Aziz Al Shaikh, Minister of Islamic Affairs, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, was in attendance at the ceremony to accept the award on behalf of the king.
