Dubai’s Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management put out a statement saying that an extensive vaccination campaign against COVID-19 will kick off in Dubai from Wednesday, December 23. The “mRNA vaccine” which is developed by US pharmaceutical company Pfizer and the German biotech company BioNTech will be given to all residents free of cost.
This is the second vaccine to roll out in the country after the UAE began approved China’s Sinopharm vaccine for all residents from December 9.
While Sinopharm, the Chinese vaccine, is 86% effective, according to UAE regulators, Pfizer’s test results show its COVID vaccine is 95% effective in preventing the virus after two doses — administered 21 days apart from each other.
Britain was the first to approve the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for use among the general public and was later approved for use in the UK, US, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain.

Yesterday, in an effort to instill confidence in the vaccine, I had my shot administered in public.
I have absolute confidence in the vaccine and look forward to the second shot. pic.twitter.com/5jeBLMY4z2
