Dubai Residents Come Together To Send 35+ Tonnes Of Relief To Flood-Stricken Sri Lanka

Dubai has once again proved that when a community is in need, this city doesn’t hesitate to step up.

After Sri Lanka was struck by one of its most devastating natural disasters last week, UAE residents stepped up in a massive way

The island country was struck by the Cyclone Ditwah, which triggered a series of floods and landslides. At least 355 people have lost their lives, 366 missing, and over one million residents have been affected. Many communities have been displaced, and families are struggling to recover from the destruction.

Dubai steps in to help

A Sri Lankan resident here in Dubai, Ashen Senarathna, went live on social media to create awareness about the situation back at his homeland and announced a donation drive. Conveying that “every small contribution matters” he asked people to come together to help the families in need. And within minutes, the response poured in!

People showed up in huge numbers. Families lined up. Strangers became volunteers. Boxes were made to send home.
The community heard the call for help and showed up.

Ashen told Lovin Dubai,

“With one live video, we collected 35 tonnes of aid”

Thirty-five TONNES. From a single call-out. If that doesn’t scream “Dubai community spirit,” nothing does.

From food and clothing to essentials for kids and families, the outpouring of support genuinely became one of the most heartwarming sights seen in a long time.

Dubai to Sri Lanka — sending strength, love, and hope.
And to everyone who donated, helped, packed, carried, or shared the message… you’ve made a world of difference.
