As the global market for the self-driving vehicles explodes, The UAE are leading the charge in innovations thus realising the need for regulations.

The Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology has just announced that they will be creating and implementing a set of regulations that will be applied towards the introduction of self-driving vehicles in the UAE.

Standards will be set to meet the nations agenda as well as enhance the UAE’s competitiveness globally by focusing on safety, innovation, and the environment.

Official requirements for the vehicles will be released in November

Details of the project and the required standards for the vehicles will be announced at the Future Vehicles World 2017 event that ESMA has organised.

ESMA is currently working with the Federal Authority for Land and Maritime Transport, the Telecommunicates Regulatory Authority, Dubai Police, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority and more to draft up the requirements.

“The Authority is focusing on providing the highest safety standards in modern transport vehicles that match the latest technologies and innovations in terms of vehicle self-driving and communication.”

Abdulla Abdul Qadir Al Meini, Director General of the Emirates Standards and Metrology Authority
