Earthquake Tremors Struck The UAE This Morning

Avatar

It’s been reported that an earthquake activity struck the UAE early this morning. The tremors, which measured 2.6 on the Richter scale, hit the north of Dibba in Fujairah. There have been no reported injuries or building damage.

Thanks to Dubai’s strict building rules and regulations, buildings that are 10 floors or higher are required to be able to withstand an earthquake of magnitude 5.6 on the Richter scale. It was also reported recently that towers like the Burj Khalifa and Dubai World Trade Centre have in-built earthquake-detection systems that help determine when it may be necessary to evacuate a location.

Although, UAE does not sit on a fault line, this is not the first incidence of nearby seismic movements (tremors) being felt in the area. When a magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck Iran in May 2014, tremors were reported to have been felt in the UAE.
