If you’re scratching your head about prayer timings, you’re not alone. The UAE Council for Fatwa issued guidance clarifying the Islamic ruling when Eid coincides with Friday. The answer is both the Eid and Friday prayers should be performed at their respective times.
In its ruling, the council emphasized that Eid prayer does not replace the Friday congregational prayer. Citing Quranic verses and prophetic traditions, the council highlighted that Friday prayer remains a core obligation in Islam and cannot be skipped for a lesser prayer, even during Eid. Historical accounts show that the Prophet Mohammed performed both prayers when they coincided.
Some scholars have suggested that those who attend Eid prayer can perform the Dhuhr prayer at home instead. The council clarified that following this view is acceptable and those who do so are not considered at fault.
In the UAE, Eid prayers usually begin shortly after sunrise, about 15–20 minutes later, though exact timings vary slightly by emirate. It’s a beautiful tradition, bringing communities together in gratitude and celebration.
So, whether Eid falls on a Friday or any other day, the focus remains the same: coming together, celebrating with loved ones, and fulfilling your religious obligations.
