A Renowned Emirati Composer Was Detained At A New York Airport For Four Hours Without Explanation

A renowned Emirati composer has been detained at JFK Airport in New York for four hours without reason. 

Mohammed Fairouz, a composer residing in New York, reportedly was detained at the airport without explanation on April 24. 

The Emirati national was returning to his home in New York after working in Britain on an orchestra recording. 

Fairouz told AFP he believes he was detained due to his Muslim name. 

Fairouz contributes to The Independent, where he discussed the incident, and stated “I usually travel between our global cities with ease.” 

Fairouz has composed works that have been performed at Carnegie Hall, and recently at Dubai Opera’s BBC Proms.
