A 22-year-old Emirati man will spend six months in prison, his driving licence has been suspended for three years and he’ll pay AED12,000 in road fines and AED200,000 in blood money after running over a bicyclist.
31-year-old Emirati athlete Mizna Abdullah Ali was was training with the Al Wathba cycling team at the time and lost her life in the incident.
The driver, a Dubai Civil Defence officer, was driving a 4WD vehicle when he collided with the woman on Al Meydan Street according to the Khaleej Times.
The car he was driving had an expired license registration, the engine had been modified without permission, the windows were over-tinted and he was driving above the speed limit while racing another car when the incident took place according to reports.
BurJuman Police concluded the in depth investigation. Both the defendant and the public prosecution may appeal the decision.
