End Of An Era: Dubai Residents Tweet Farewells To Souq As It Redirects To Amazon Starting Today

Avatar

It’s payday for most in the UAE today, and so the celebrations came with a click to popular e-retailer, Souq.com, for a little digital treat.

But a lot of them were met with surprise when a message popped up, announcing that the Souq name will no longer be intact- and all customers would be redirected to Amazon.ae.

As you may well be aware of, this comes two years after the successful acquisition of Souq by Amazon at a $580 million. In the following statement, Souq’s co-founder, Ronaldo Mouchawar, now also the vice-president of Amazon MENA stated his pride over the merging of the two companies.

Amazon has officially taken over as of today!

Mouchawar also said that the new Amazon MENA will bring the best of ‘Souq’s local know-how and Amazon’s global retailing experience’ so that customers get to enjoy the very best of what the both have and will continue to offer.

UAE residents have been proud of Souq’s success in the region, but the feels were still there..

Some were impressed with the ‘smoothness’ of the transition

Others were a tad confused

‘Thank you for your service, Souq’

It may be the end of an era but it’s also the start of something new
