Avatar

Etihad Airways helped transport and release 19 endangered black rhinos into the wild this month, in conjunction with Akagera National Park.

The operation, which was the result of 12 months of planning, took around two weeks to execute, transporting the animals from Johannesburg, South Africa to Rwanda’s capital, Kigali.

Etihad Cargo worked closely with animal transport specialist Intradco Global to get the rhinos safely to the Akagera National Park in Rwanda.

Three vets and two attendants travelled with the rhinos on their journey

They were transported in special pallets for their journey, with 10 heading through on the first flight and nine on the second trip.

The rhinos were taken from the airport to the park with a police escort.

All rhinos are reported to be in good health.
