A former Etisalat employee has been jailed for six months after stealing up to 3.5 million Etisalat rewards points, the equivalent of nearly AED 29,000, from Etisalat clients.
The ex-staff member was working in client services where he used his access to hack 19 customer accounts and reclaim their points.
He swiped reward points, exchanged them for coupons and in turn used them to purchase items from Pizza Hut, KFC, Souq.com and Reel Cinemas.
The Emirati reported the Egyptian man, who pleaded not-guilty while claiming another employee used his credentials to log in.
The man has been fined AED 150,000 and ordered to repay Etisalat the AED 29,000. He will be deported following his punishment according to reports.
