An Indian Businessman Pays AED1 MILLION To Secure The Release Of 700 Prisoners

It’s the Year Of Tolerance and one Dubai philanthropist is going above and beyond to secure the release of 700 prisoners, who otherwise would not have the means to pay.

Firoz Merchant, founder and chairman of Pure Gold Group, one of the largest retailers of affordable and luxury jewellery in the MENA region, made a generous contribution to help prisoners in correctional institutions across the UAE.

The fund will allow prisoners to afford the cost of transport home, and the majority will go to prisoners have finished their sentences, according to local reports.

Merchant did not distinguish on religion or nationality

Merchant secured release for prisoners from 30 countries, and various religions, affording them a second chance. This is not the business magnates first step in to philanthropy, he has repeatedly received awards for his philanthropy efforts and has helped and supported various institutions and correctional institutions in the past.
