A former editor-at-large of Gulf News has asked a Dubai court for a reduced sentence.
Francis Matthew was convicted of ‘physical assault leading to death’ after the death of his 62-year-old wife Jane at their Jumeirah villa in July 2017. He’s currently serving a ten-year jail sentence.
His lawyer appealed to the courts stating the current sentence is too severe, and also asked the courts to remove the deportation order following the completion of the sentence.
This comes following arguments that Matthew was temporarily insane at the time of the murder.
A verdict will be issued on October 7.
