The former editor-at-large at Gulf News, convicted of killing his wife, did not appear at his most recent hearing, it has been announced.

Francis Matthew was convicted of murdering his wife, Jane, at their Jumeirah home in July 2017, and sentenced in March 2018.

Matthew failed to appear at a court appearance this week. His lawyers were expected to plead with judges that he had been incited to murder his wife after she allegedly provoked him with words.

Matthew is currently serving 15 years on a premeditated murder charge in a Dubai prison.
