The former editor-at-large at Gulf News, convicted of killing his wife, has had his jail term extended by Dubai Courts, it has been announced.

Francis Matthew was convicted of murdering his wife, Jane, at their Jumeirah home in July 2017, and sentenced to 10 years in prison in March 2018.

But now, the sentence has been extended to 15 years, following a change to his conviction by the Dubai Court of Appeal.

Matthew was convicted of ‘physical assault leading to death’, in Dubai Criminal Court, but now has been convicted of premeditated murder.

The case was up for appeal, with Matthew’s lawyer arguing that he had no intent to kill Jane

This comes following arguments that Matthew was temporarily insane at the time of the murder.
