Emirati Businessman Khalaf Al Habtoor Has Called For A Boycott Of US Companies Following The Khashoggi Media Uproar

The UAE billionaire, Khalaf Al Habtoor has called for a boycott on US companies that have backed out of Saudi’s Future Investment Initiative summit.

In several tweets and an op-ed article on Arab News, the mogul encouraged the rest of the GCC, Egypt and Jordan to stand in support of Saudi, by boycotting companies like Virgin and Uber to show that the region cannot be bullied.

It comes following the news of the disappearance of Washington Post columnist, Jamal Khashoggi, from the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey.

A number of international companies and guest speakers have backed out of attending the FII

Citing the disappearance of Khashoggi, on October 2.

International leaders have been discussing the case, and questioning Saudi Arabia’s role in the man’s disappearance, however Saudi’s Foreign Ministry has released a statement that it will not tolerate any external pressure – and any action or economic sanction imposed on Saudi will result in ‘greater action’ from the Gulf power.

Al Habtoor states that the world ‘needs to wait for the truth to be revealed before making assumptions’
