A huge construction project to improve the road connection service in the Dubai International Airport area, with an expected cost of AED 404 million, is 50% complete.

Mattar Al Tayer, the Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Roads and Transport Authority made the announcement today.

The 1st phase is expected to open in December this year and the full project is expected to be finished within the first half of next year.

The aim of the improvement is to accommodate the massive growth projections for DXB

By 2020 Dubai International Airport forecasts 92 million passengers and these road works are in anticipation of the huge growth.

A new three-lane bridge on Airport street over the Rashidiya Intersection will cut intersection waiting times from 13 minutes down to 1 minute and ease congestion.

The Marrakech-Airport Streets intersection will also experience greater traffic flow following the improvements, reducing intersection waiting times from seven minutes to less than one.

The massive undertaking will lead to significant improvements on the following roads

“The Project comprises the construction of bridges, a tunnel at Marrakech Intersection, and bridges at Rashidiya Intersection as well as the Airport St. junctions with Casablanca St. and Nad Al Hamar St. It also includes improving at-grade intersections, and constructing a service road of 3 lanes in each direction to separate the traffic movement from and to Nad Al Hamar St. from the traffic on the Airport St. starting from Rashidiya Intersection up to Marrakech Intersection”, according to Wam.ae
