A 23-year-old British man has gone on hunger strike in a Sharjah prison.
The man was arrested in 2013 when police found a quantity of cocaine in his car. He admitted to the crime and was subsequently served a nine year jail sentence.
According to a report from the Khaleej Times, Brigadier Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of the Sharjah Police stated that the man has begun a hunger strike.
The man is confined in the Sharjah Punitive and Reformatory Establishment (SPRE) who are eager to maintain the health and welfare standards of all inmates.
It is not clear why the man chose to begin a hunger strike at this time, however a representative has been assigned to visit the inmate and hopefully resolve the issue quickly.
