UAE expats stuck in India have been awaiting the resumption of flights since April 23, 2021 (69 days in total) and have been in limbo ever since the travel confusion stirred last week. With a lack of certainty and the constant change of travel dates, UAE residents in India are yearning for updates to be in their favour.

On their official website, Etihad Airways announced that restrictions on passenger flights from India have been extended until July 21. Prior to this, airlines were permitted to bring back residents who were fully vaccinated with UAE-approved vaccines, however, that mandate was retracted overnight.

Cargo flights will continue to operate in both directions without any restrictions or impacts.

Apart from India, four other South Asian countries will face a travel suspension until July 21, 2021

Namely, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

These travel restrictions do not apply to UAE nationals, diplomatic missions, official delegations, Golden residence holders and business and charter flights

Passengers returning to the UAE will be subject to quarantine conditions and PCR testing.

There will be revised travel regulations for returning passengers from these specific countries due to the COVID-19 conditions in the respective countries.

UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), in a Notice Issued to Airmen (NOTAM), clarified that flights from India and 13 other countries, including Liberia, Namibia, Sierra Leone, Democratic Republic Of Congo, Uganda, Zambia, Vietnam, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Nigeria and South Africa, will remain suspended until 23:59pm of July 21, 2021.

Delta, which is the most recent of the COVID-19 mutations is being treated as a variant of concern, and travel restrictions to the countries mentioned above have been put in place to prevent the spread of the highly contagious mutation.
