Indian And Hindu Expats In Dubai Come Together For Auspicious Navratri Celebrations

Avatar

Dubai’s Indian community recently came together for a week full of vibrant celebrations as they observed the auspicious festival of Navratri. This joyous occasion, held in honor of the divine feminine goddess, marks a time of spiritual significance, self-discipline, and a profound connection with the divine.

Navratri, a Hindu festival that spans 9 nights, usually falls in the month of Ashvin (usually around September-October). It’s a time for devotees to immerse themselves in rituals, prayers, and yagnas dedicated to the goddess Durga. During this period, it’s believed that one can attain purity, salvation, and positive energy by cleansing the mind and soul.

Dubai’s Indian community embraced this festival with open hearts and open arms

The week was filled with prayers, family time, vibrant traditional dances like Garba and Dandiya, and, of course, delicious feasts. It was a time for people to not only honor their faith but also to strengthen their bonds with their roots and with each other.

As the music played and the dancers twirled under the glittering Dubai skyline, it was a testament to the resilience of tradition and the power of unity.

These Navratri celebrations showcased the rich tapestry of Indian culture and traditions, reminding everyone that even far from their homeland, the spirit of togetherness and devotion continues to thrive

Navratri also encourages fasting and self-discipline among devotees. Fasting during this time is considered spiritually significant and provides an opportunity to seek blessings, cleanse the body and mind, and practice gratitude and devotion. It’s a time when prayers, devotion, Garba and Dandiya come together to create a harmonious symphony of celebration.

Below are a few places you can continue celebrating Navratri with your loved ones:

  • Mamzar Park (October 27)
  • Zabeel Park Amphitheatre (October 28)
  • Etisalat Academy
