“I apologise to the neighbouring countries”

Pezeshkian acknowledged the attacks and issued a direct apology. “I must apologise on my own behalf and on behalf of Iran to the neighbouring countries that were attacked by Iran” he said in the broadcast.

The Iranian president also announced that the country’s interim leadership council had approved to suspend all attacks against neighbouring nations.

Iran would not carry out further strikes unless an attack on Iran originated from those countries.

An announcement that brought about relief

This week, attacks were reported across several Gulf countries in the region, including the UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, among others.

The situation across the region remained highly sensitive as developments continue to unfold. People were on high alert, but stayed strong due to the constant reassurance and updates shared by the governments and leaders.

During such a highly sensitive time, President Pezeshkian acknowledgment and apology comes as a huge relief for many who have been praying to see an end to the attacks.

Iran’s response to the United States

During the same address, Pezeshkian also responded to calls from the United States demanding Iran’s unconditional surrender. He dismissed the demand strongly, saying it was “a dream that they should take to their grave.”

For now, all that Iran’s announcement suggests is a pause to the strikes and the alerts that we’ve all been hearing over the week.
