Israel’s Foreign Minister Yair Lapid is currently here in the UAE on a 2-day visit. The minister is down with the task to inaugurate an embassy, launch a consulate and sign a bilateral agreement on economic cooperation.
With the inauguration of the Israeli Embassy Abu Dhabi and an Israeli Consulate in Dubai, Lapid commented that “the peace we are celebrating today isn’t between governments and leaders but between people and nations” quoted The Jerusalem Post.
The trip which is being deemed as historic comes after the two aforementioned countries signed the peace treaty, as part of the Abraham Accords last year in September. The normalisation of ties resulted in a number of economic, financial and tourism-related collaborations.
The Middle East is our home
In a statement published by the Reuters, during the ribbon-cutting ceremony at Abu Dhabi Lapid expressed that,
Israel wants peace with its neighbours – with all its neighbours. We aren’t going anywhere. The Middle East is our home.
We’re here to stay. We call on all the countries of the region to recognise that and to come to talk to us.
