A 31-year-old Indian welder will go to jail for a year for insulting Prophet Mohammed and Muslims by posting offensive remarks on his Facebook account.

After completing his jail term and also paying fine of AED500,000, the man will be deported from the UAE.

The incident came to light with the help of a grocery store worker

While surfing his Facebook news feed, the fellow Indian worker noticed the slanderous comments posted by the welder.

He reported the matter to Al Rashidiya police station and guided the police to his residence, as he knew where the welder lived. The man was immediately taken into custody.

The welder was convicted of “blasphemy”

UAE’s strict anti-hate laws
