A recent auction by the Roads Transport Authority (RTA) managed to rack up a whopping AED 23.5 million total for a public plate number auction on Saturday.
So if you see the plate number ’12 W’ cruisin’ around Sheikh Zayed, that’s the highest-bid plate sold for AED4million.
According to The Khaleej Times, plate ’20 Z’, auctioned at AED2million plus, while ‘222 Z’, was grabbed at more than an AED1million.
The revenues of the 101st plate numbers public auction, reached AED 23,475,000. For more details, visit: https://t.co/4nVbgt1cxz pic.twitter.com/kHVWY6zYLy

It’s pretty common in the Khaleej (Gulf) that a plate number be personalised to the individual’s taste or personal memory- so much so that auctions like these have now become a thing.
In other GCC countries, the lesser the number usually depicts a higher monetary value (at which it was priced- perhaps, the same goes for these Dubai plate auctions.)
Still, you can’t help but be surprised at the grandiosity of it all!
