Du Says They Are Keen On Allowing WhatsApp And Skype Services Under One Condition

Du has just made a statement claiming that they are open to making agreements with VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocols) services such as Whatsapp and Skype.

Over the last month, the UAE has experienced a complete blockage of Skype, with the service coming back a few days later.

Users in the UAE are still experiencing issues with using the application to call through the service to other Skype users.

Unfortunately, Skype has confirmed that it is currently blocked in the UAE in various occasions and that it is completely out of their hands

The Chief commercial officer of Du, Fahad Al Hassawi, stated that they are keen on offering such services from any provider, only if the companies agreed to strike a deal to create a partnership.

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authorities released a statement in March regarding their stance on VoIP services

‘Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) are considered part of the UAE’s regulated activities. The TRA has granted licensed operators the eligibility to provide such services across their networks. Companies wishing to provide such services should coordinate with the UAE’s licensed service providers in this regard.’

The same applies to WhatsApp Call in the UAE
