Parents React To KHDA Extending Remote Learning In Dubai Schools

On March 24, Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) confirmed that all private educational institutions in Dubai will continue distance learning until Friday, April 3, 2026, in line with guidance from the Education, Human Development and Community Council.

Following the announcement, many parents voiced their thoughts on distance learning for students amid the ongoing crisis

And the reactions are a mix of relief, support, added with a few calls for classrooms to reopen sooner.

Distance learning continues for now

According to KHDA’s announcement, schools that want to return to on-site learning earlier must submit a formal request explaining their specific circumstances and justification.

Each request will be reviewed case by case, with the Ministry of Education making the final decision – keeping in mind the safety and well-being of students and staff.

In short: schools can apply to reopen, but approvals come in only once safety is ensured.

Parents are divided on school reopening

Under KHDA’s post, parents quickly jumped into the comments to share their thoughts.

Some parents feel schools in quieter, less crowded areas could reopen sooner.

One Dubai dad commented that based on how strong the UAE’s air defence response has been, he doesn’t see a major reason why schools in few areas cannot reopen soon. He added that while distance learning is working well, face-to-face teaching will always remain the gold standard for long-term educational outcomes.

A few others echoed the same sentiment, saying classrooms offer structure and better learning for students.

But a majority of parents leaned toward supporting KHDA’s decision to extend distance learning.

As the UAE continues to face tensions, many parents say they would rather play it safe – especially when it comes to their children.

“Thank you, KHDA… safety first always,” one parent wrote.

“Nothing matters more than their safety”

Another parent shared a heartfelt message saying that during times like these, distance learning is the safest option and schools should ideally remain online until a ceasefire is officially agreed upon.

They added that while they trust the country’s leadership and safety systems, keeping their child close during uncertain times is the most important thing.

One parent summed it up simply: “My heart is at peace knowing our kids are safe. Distance learning is not easy but nothing matters more than their safety.”

And that sentiment seems to reflect what a large part of the community is feeling right now – online classes could be challenging, but children’s safety comes first and foremost.

For now, it’s a wait-and-see situation

With schools allowed to apply for early reopening and approvals being reviewed case by case, the situation is still evolving.

Some parents are ready for classrooms to reopen.
Others want remote learning to continue until things are completely stable.

But for now, the focus remains the same across the board: keeping students safe while making sure learning continues, even if it’s from home.
