Yesterday it hit headlines a 61-year-old British man was being detained in the UAE for importing six months of anti-depressants.
Perry Coppins had been transiting through Fujairah port when he was found with three varieties of prescription medication in his luggage, when according to UAE law, travellers are only permitted to carry up to 30 days worth of medication into the country provided they are carrying a valid prescription.
A trial date had been set for January 15, however after five weeks in custody Coppins, a maritime security officer has been released without charge, it has been reported.
Note: Coppins did have a prescription for the medication but also had approximately six months worth of pills – which is prohibited under The Pharmacy Federal Law No 4 of 1983 and Narcotic Law 14 of 1995.Â
