A private event last night was the best of Dubai in one.
Hosted by the one-and-only Hugh Jackman (who sang hits from his record-breaking movie ‘The Greatest Showman’), attended by royals and dignitaries and honouring some of the most important life-shapers on the planet; The Global Teacher Prize by the Varkey Foundation was incredible.
In the biggest prize to teachers in the world, one teacher was honoured for his incredible commitment to the skill.

Tabichi gives 80% of his salary back into his school in rural Kenya. In an area where drought and famine are frequent, 95% of families are poor and drug abuse, teen pregnancies are common, Tabichi’s initiatives such as a ‘talent nuturing club’, enhancing the science club, and mentoring students to take part in Kenya Science and Engineering Fair 2018 saw his school take part and win categories. He and four colleagues also give low-achieving pupils one-to-one tuition in Maths and Science outside class and on the weekends and enrolment has doubled in over three years.
“Seeing my learners grow in knowledge, skills and confidence is my greatest joy in teaching! When they become resilient, creative and productive in the society, I get a lot of satisfaction for I act as their greatest destiny enabler and key that unlocks their potential in the most exciting manner.”
