RTA has just awarded the contract for Phase II of the Hessa Street Development Project, and it’s a total game-changer.

We’re talking about a massive upgrade that will turn a 24-minute crawl into a five-minute cruise.

Here is the breakdown of how Dubai is fixing one of its busiest corridors.

Hessa Street is a vital artery which been handling nearly half a million trips a day. Phase II is stepping in to perform some urban bypass surgery:

• Capacity Boost: The road is expanding from two lanes to four lanes in each direction.
• Volume: This doubles the capacity from 4,000 to 8,000 vehicles per hour per direction.
• The Reach: Nearly 650,000 residents across 10 communities, including JVC, Al Barsha South, Arjan, and The Greens are about to get their mornings back.

The project includes a staggering 8,835 meters of bridges and a new 480-meter tunnel to whisk traffic from JVC toward Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

The plan also involves swapping out those tricky roundabouts for signalized intersections and adding high-tech multilevel interchanges to keep Al Khail Road merging seamlessly.

Dubai is continuing its mission to become a “20-minute city” by prioritizing sustainable transport.

New Tracks: A 10.4km dedicated track will link Dubai Hills to Dubai Motor City.

Phase I Perks: This joins the existing 13.5km track from Phase I, which features those two architecturally stunning bridges over Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road.

Connectivity: It’s all about that last-mile journey, making it easier to ditch the car for shorter trips.

With Phase II now officially in motion, the days of Hessa Street being a bottleneck are officially numbered!
