Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the UAE and the visit was highly publicised.

As part of a two-day state visit to the UAE where he discussed India’s economic trajectory, domestic and foreign sourcing, he was also honoured with the UAE’s highest civilian honour, the ‘Order of Zayed’ and announced a new credit card, RuPay.

RuPay has been immediately made available in 21 businesses and 5,000 ATMs across the country.

PM Modi made a purchase to mark the announcement

RuPay is a  card payment scheme that offers a domestic, open-loop, multilateral system which allows all Indian banks to participate in electronic payments

It’s the Indian equivalent to Visa and MasterCard and the UAE is the first country outside of India to accept the mode of payment.

Prominent UAE banks will soon start issuing RuPay cards.

The news is welcomed by those who hold the card as its a safe, secure and cost-effective transaction method, and with a growing number of locations globally are accepting RuPay.
