New Monitoring Systems Mean You Could Be Slapped With Fines For Overtaking School Buses

Avatar

New monitoring systems mean motorists violating road rules surrounding school buses could be caught out, and get some serious fines.

A pilot phase of 10 school buses will see the vehicles equipped with monitoring systems to regulate both the driver, attendants on the bus and motorists on the road.

Overtaking a school bus when it has its stop-sign out, or failing to leave a safe distance between your vehicle and the bus (5m) will both be enforced via the remote monitoring systems, according to the RTA.

If the trial is successful, the system will be rolled out across Dubai’s school bus system, which is approximately 6,500 school buses.

Overtaking a school bus with its stop sign out will result in an AED1,000 fine and 10 black points

The penalty for failure to maintain the safe distance is the same – AED1,000 fine and 10 black points.
