Following the news that school fees would be frozen by the government for the next year, one chain of schools has rescinded pay rises from teachers.

GEMS Education has reportedly frozen teachers’ salaries, following news of the freeze on fees for students.

Some teachers from schools have been issued letters informing them that previous offers on salary increases have been withdrawn.

According to a statement to The National, a GEMS spokesperson said: “The current move to hold salary increases is based on the recent school fee freeze decision. This is not an unusual measure to take in uncertain times. Our priority remains on providing quality education.”
