Five people, including two children, have died in a house fire in Sharjah on Monday morning. 

The five died of smoke inhalation in the fire, which broke out in a residential building in Al Buteenah in the early hours of Monday morning.

Reports state the fire broke out between 12.30-1am, and fire and ambulance crews rushed to the scene. 

The apartment was located on the first floor of the four-storey building.

The fire was brought under control by authorities, but the five were unable to be saved. 

Investigations into the cause are underway.
