A Tweet from Dubai Media Office this evening directed us to the Government of Dubai website with the new information.

New changes, issued by Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum were put into effect to improve safety standards on the tram system and it affects the fines for violators of the rules.

Here are the important bits:

-Jumping the red light at the tramway intersection and causing a traffic accident with fatalities will invite a minimum fine of AED15,000 and a maximum fine of AED 30,000

-Jumping the red light at the tramway intersection and causing a traffic accident with casualties will invite a minimum fine of AED5,000 and maximum fine of AED 15,000 apart from suspension of the driver’s license for a period of between six months and one year

– Jumping the red light at the tramway intersection and causing a traffic accident without casualties will invite a minimum fine of AED3,000 and a maximum fine of AED 6,000 and suspension of the driver’s license for a period of between 30 days and six months.

– Jumping the red light at the tramway intersection without causing a traffic accident will invite a minimum fine of AED2,000 and a maximum fine of AED 5,000 and suspension of the driver’s license for a period of between 30 days and three months.

-Owners, contractors or operators are subject to a fine of between AED 100,000 and AED 500,000 if they do not adhere to safety and security requirements as stated in this Resolution, or the policies and procedures set forth under it.
