New rules for expats sponsoring family members come into effect today.

The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) announced that expats can now sponsor their families based on income alone.

Until now, both job title and earnings were taken into account; men had to earn at least AED4,000 and women had to earn AED10,000 per month to be eligible to sponsor family members.

Now, to sponsor a family member, you’ll need to earn at least AED3,000, (with company accommodation) or AED4,000 (without housing). This will be the requirement to sponsor a wife, husband, son under the age of 18, or unmarried daughter.
