Floods and landslides reported in various parts of Sri Lanka have killed 100 people, and a further 99 are said to be missing, it has been reported.
The landslides began on Thursday night and Friday morning after two days of heavy rain. Rescue missions are underway, and the Sri Lankan government is appealing to the UN and neighboring countries for aid and relief support.
Residents have fled to higher land as floodwaters caused by monsoon weather have left over 2,500 people displaced according to the Disaster Management Center with countless more affected by the rains.
This is following a similar landslide in the Island nation that killed at least 100 people in May 2016.
