Here Are The Top Three Causes For Fires Starting In Dubai Buildings

Avatar

Last week was a scary week for Marina residents.

Over a five day period, three separate fires started in residential buildings in the prime real estate area; the Marina Torch, the Movenpick in JBR and the Tiger building

The swift response of Dubai Civil Defence meant no major injuries were reported however the number of fires is a cause for concern for apartment dwellers across the city.

According to Servicemarket.com here are the top three causes for home fires

  1. Electrical equipment: Leaving any electrical equipment turned on is the primary cause for home fires
  2. Faulty wiring in building: Faulty wiring is a common cause for concern
  3. Smoking and barbecues: Cigarettes not stubbed out correctly and barbecues on balconies (most apartment buildings have banned barbecues)

Fires can spread easily due to outdated cladding

Earlier this year, the fire code in Dubai was updated to ban the use of an outdated aluminum cladding that’s easily susceptible to fires.

All new buildings must adhere to the new laws and the responsibility is with the developer to ensure building standards are up to scratch.
