Two UAE Armed Forces Members Martyred In Helicopter Crash

The UAE Ministry of Defence announced the martyrdom of two Armed Forces members following a helicopter crash caused by a technical malfunction while performing their national duty

The Ministry extended its deepest condolences and sincere sympathies to the families of the two martyrs, praying that God grants them His vast mercy and gives their loved ones patience and solace.

Following the announcement, the Ministry also shared statistics outlining the scale of aerial threats detected and intercepted by UAE air defence systems

On March 9, 2026, UAE air defences detected 15 ballistic missiles targeting the country. According to the Ministry of Defence, 12 missiles were successfully intercepted, while three fell into the sea. Authorities also reported the detection of 18 drones, of which 17 were intercepted, while one drone impacted on land.

The Ministry’s data also revealed the broader scale of aerial threats detected since the beginning of the recent attacks in the region.

UAVs (drones):

  • 1,440 detected
  • 1,359 intercepted
  • 81 impacts on land

Cruise missiles:

  • 8 detected
  • 8 intercepted

Ballistic missiles:

  • 253 detected
  • 233 intercepted
  • 18 impacted in the sea
  • 2 impacted on land

These figures highlight the extensive efforts by UAE air defence systems to intercept aerial threats and protect the country during the ongoing regional escalation. The Ministry of Defence continues to monitor the situation closely while reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding the nation and its residents.
