The UAE Has Categorically Denied Recent Reports Of Secret UAE Prisons In Yemen

Recent reports of secret prisons in Yemen run by UAE Armed Forces have been strongly denied by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC).

A statement from the ministry declared this would be in the jurisdiction of local Yemeni authorities and noted that while working cooperatively with Yemeni forces, the UAE has played a key role in removing rebel Al Qaeda forces from Southern Yemen.

A ‘political game’

“What is stated in the report is completely untrue; it is nothing more than a political game through which the militias and the parties affected by the efforts of the Arab Coalition to fight the terrorist organisations seek to discredit the Coalition, which originally entered Yemen in order to save the people of Yemen.”

“The UAE has provided billions of dollars in direct assistance to Southern Yemen, helping to provide safety and security, restoring water and power systems, repairing schools and hospitals and distributing food aid.”

“The UAE maintains no secret detention centres and does not torture prisoners.”

The UAE has been a longtime friend of Yemen providing relief and assistance in times of need

According to Wam.ae, the UAE generously backs Yemen humanitarian operations providing assistance to suffering Yemenis and the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) plays an active role in the country, in the past offering food relief trucks and a fleet of buses to benefit public transport in the country.
