An incident at Fujairah Port is causing the spread of ‘baseless and unfounded’ rumours, however UAE authorities have now confirmed a disruption which has been described as ‘sabotage’ near the port.

No injuries were reported and there were no harmful leaks or spillages, however authorities confirmed the incident involved Saudi ships and an unconfirmed video shows plumes of smoke seen billowing by the port.

The ships were stationed near UAE territorial waters in the Gulf of Oman, east of Fujairah.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, MOFAIC, this was an act of sabotage and the Ministry is investigating the serious incident along with working in cooperation with the relevant local and international bodies.

This was an ‘act of sabotage’

The MOFAIC stated that, ‘carrying out acts of sabotage on commercial and civilian vessels and threatening the safety and lives of those on board is a serious development’.

The statement also called on the international community to assume its responsibilities to prevent such actions by parties attempting to undermine maritime traffic safety and security.
