The UAE’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) is currently in discussions with Microsoft and Apple, with the aim of lifting the ban on popular online calling services such as Skype and FaceTime in the UAE.
The Director General of the TRA, Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, said that the UAE is in talks with providing these services in the UAE, according to a report in Al Ittihad, an Arabic language daily newspaper, with the aim of providing improved internet voice services for residents.
The post also reported the strong links between Microsoft and Apple with the UAE and the tech giant’s continued expansions in the region.
