The UAE has been rated most prepared for change in the MENA region, and third most prepared in the world, according to a new study.
The KPMG Change Readiness Index ranked 136 countries according to their response and adaptation to changes from “short term events, such as natural disasters, and longer-term demographic, economic, social and technological trends,” according to the report.
The study examines each country’s ability to manage change through the three pillars: enterprise capability, government capability, people & civil society capability.
It uses information from 1,400 experts and secondary sources including information from World Economic Forum, World Bank International Monetary Fund and United Nations.
The UAE came runner up to just two countries – Switzerland topped the list (Sweden came second) thanks to its scores on Enterprise Capability, Government Capability and People & Civil Society Capability.
Singapore lost its top spot and dropped down to 4th.
The UAE is capable of anticipating, adapting to and managing change, a strength underpinned by close public/private sector co-operation.

“The CRI offers an eye-opening view of which countries are best positioned to weather and potentially benefit from inevitable change, and the factors behind their preparedness. It is increasingly becoming evident that countries cannot only focus on GDP or business outputs to be considered as change ready.
The CRI shows that improving capabilities in areas of government and people & civil society, as well as in enterprise, or business environment, are often key to why some countries are able to climb up the rankings.”
