UAE’s Next Public Holiday Could Be A Long Weekend!

The UAE’s next public holiday is just around the corner — and it might bring with it a long weekend.

The birthday of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), which is expected to fall on Thursday, September 4

While that’s already a welcome mid-week break, not many residents know that the UAE Cabinet has the authority to shift certain public holidays to create longer weekends.

The Rule Behind It

According to Cabinet Resolution No. (27) of 2024, the Cabinet may officially move public holidays to either the start or end of the workweek to optimise rest days and benefit both workers and institutions.

However, there’s one exception: Eid holidays are fixed and cannot be moved.

What This Means

If the Prophet’s (PBUH) birthday falls on a Thursday, the day off could potentially be shifted to Friday. This would give both public and private sector employees a three-day weekend — depending on how the Cabinet chooses to apply the rule this year.

Until the official announcement is made, nothing is confirmed — but the possibility of a long weekend is definitely on the table.
